Honor the past while embracing the present
Redesign Honolulu Zoo’s logo to appeal to families through memorable iconography that considers, responds to, and amplifies the mission and history.
Welcome audience participation
To emphasize the zoo’s interactive nature, the logo’s puzzle-like appearance supports their mission to create meaningful experiences to foster stewardship of the world around us.
Design System
Sketches
I sought to explore three subjects—the zoo’s royal aviary, the four animals that started the zoo—elephant, bear, monkey, and birds—and the three sections that currently divide the zoo—mammals, reptiles, and birds.
I chose to focus on the rich history of the zoo as it solidifies its individuality. Illustrating the collection of animals that started the zoo shows its rich past, while reflecting on the zoo’s current diverse exhibition.
Final Design
This logo mirrors the zoo’s past while incorporating clean shapes with earthy and bright colors to modernize the imagery. I incorporated an elephant, bear, monkey, and a bird into one image–like a puzzle–to demonstrate the zoo’s interactive and family-friendly environment.
